Community Meeting Thur Dec 13th 7:00 PM

12/4/2018

Community Meeting: “Protecting Caroline's Environment and Natural Resources”
7 pm to 9 pm Thursday December 13th, 2018
Brooktondale Fire Station
Holiday Cookies to share!

The Caroline Planning Board is currently working on updating and improving strategies for implementing Caroline's comprehensive plan.  This fall, the Caroline Planning Board is holding community workshops to generate and develop strategies for implementing specific areas of the plan.

This workshop will consider how to protect Caroline's environment and natural resources and will be held from 7 pm to 9 pm on Thursday, December 13th at the Brooktondale Fire Station.   Protecting Caroline’s environment and natural resources has consistently ranked as a top priority for Caroline residents.  Some examples of what Caroline residents have identified as important include creating and protecting parks, preserves and undeveloped public land; protecting watersheds, aquifers and streambanks; maintaining a clean environment (for example, by protecting air and water and by limiting noise and light pollution); living sustainably and mitigating climate change.  The main purpose of the workshop is to develop "action items" for the town and Town Board; as a general example, "Get rid of roadside trash" is a possible goal but not an action item; "The Town Board should give out a certificate and hold an awards ceremony  honoring the individual or group that picks up the most roadside trash" or "The Town should hire someone to collect roadside trash" are possible concrete steps to attain that goal.

Planning Board members will provide some of their favorite holiday cookies at the meeting.  Anyone else is welcome to bring holiday cookies to share, but that is not required!

Before the meeting, Caroline residents are encouraged to fill out a two-question survey to gather additional input on protecting the environment and natural resources in Caroline.  Whether or not you can attend the workshop, please fill out the survey!  The survey is available at: http://bit.ly/CarolineEnvironment
No personal data is collected as a result of filling out the survey.

The schedule of workshops is:

Thursday, December 13th, 2018 7-9 pm
Protecting Caroline’s Environment and Natural Resources
Brooktondale Fire Hall

Saturday, January 12th, 2019, 5-8 pm
Preserving Caroline’s Rural Character
Speedsville Community Center (location to be confirmed)

Comprehensive plans are developed through community effort so please come to either or both the remaining workshops!  In addition to contributing at the workshops, ideas can be emailed at any time to Planning_Board@townofcaroline.org.
