Tax Collection (2ND POSTING)

I, Marilou Harrington-Lawson, the undersigned Tax Collector for the Town of Caroline, County of Tompkins, and State of New York, have duly received the tax roll and warrant for the collection of taxes within the Town of Caroline for the year 2017. I will attend at my office at the Caroline Town Office Building, 2668 Slaterville Road in said town, the first Tuesday, January 3, 2017 and then the following Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm; Wednesdays from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm and Saturdays 9:00 am to noon and will continue through the entire collection period, exclusive of holidays, for the purpose of receiving the taxes listed on said roll.

Full payment of taxes may be paid (postmarked) on or before January 31, 2017 without charge or interest. On all taxes received (postmarked) after such date, there shall be added interest of one (1) percent from February 1 through February 28 and an additional one (1) percent plus $1.00 from March 1 through March 31. Upon the return of unpaid taxes to Tompkins County on April 1, a penalty of five (5) percent will be added, plus interest at the rate of one (1) percent per month.

Taxes may be paid in installments only if the first installment with service charge is paid (postmarked) ON OR BEFORE JANUARY 31, 2017. This option IS NOT available after JANUARY 31; installment payments received after the deadline will be returned to sender.

Property owners WHO DO NOT receive their tax bills in January should notify their tax collector as PROPERTY OWNERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYMENT with any applicable interest.

ABSOLUTELY NO POSTDATED CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED.  Any postdated checks received will be returned to sender.

NOTICE of PERMISSIVE REFERENDUM
 
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Town Board of the Town of Caroline, at a regular meeting thereof, adopted a resolution dated January 11, 2017, whereby, as follows, the Resolution:
 
RESOLUTION TO TRANSFER REMAINING FUNDS IN THE TOWN HALL ROOF RESERVE FUND TO THE TOWN HALL IMPROVEMENTS RESERVE FUND:
 
Be it Resolved, the Caroline Town Board hereby authorizes the transfer of funds remaining in the Town Hall Roof Reserve Fund ($13,568.50) upon final payments for completion of the new town hall roof to the Town Hall Improvement Reserve Fund when establishment of this fund becomes official upon completion of permissive referendum.
 
This resolution is subject to permissive referendum pursuant to the Local Finance Law and Town Law Article 7, and the funds so identified will be so expended for such project unless a petition signed by the required number of qualified electors of the Town of Caroline is received on or before 9:00 A.M. February 21, 2017, protesting such resolution and requesting a referendum thereupon.
