Joint Youth Commission Seeks Volunteer Board Members

10/18/2016

Do YOU have three hours a month to be a force to support local youth in building important life and job skills?

Please consider contributing your talents to the Joint Youth Commission.  The JYC has openings for representatives from the Towns of Ithaca and Caroline and Villages of Lansing and Cayuga Heights.  The Joint Youth Commission evaluates youth needs and makes funding recommendations to the JYC municipalities for programs to meet these needs.   Programs are provided by trained professionals employed by local agencies who report regularly to the JYC.  In 2015, 290 youth were served in JYC programs.

The JYC focuses on middle school and high school age youth and has two broad priorities for its programs:
•    First Time Employment, Employment Training, Career Exploration, Apprenticeships
•    Youth Development, Life and Social Skills, Healthy Lifestyles and Decision Making

Applicants for our current vacancies must reside in either the Town of Ithaca, Town or Caroline, Village of Cayuga Heights, or Village of Lansing.   Parents who have youth of middle or high school ages have historically been a good fit for this opportunity but we welcome any interested resident.

Meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM at Ithaca Town Hall.

Please email Kris Bennett (kmbennett@tompkins-co.org) or Karyn Scott (irisjumper@yahoo.com) for more information.  We invite you to attend one of our meetings to check out whether this important volunteer opportunity is for you.

Public Meeting Oct 27th Planning Board

10/16/2016

2016 CAROLINE RESIDENT SURVEY RESULTS

Dear Caroline Residents,

The Caroline Planning Board is holding a Public Meeting on Thursday, October 27th at the Brooktondale Community Center from 7 PM to 9 PM.   We will be presenting the 2016 Caroline Resident Survey Results.

The Planning Board developed the survey to seek ideas and opinions from Town residents regarding the Town’s Comprehensive Plan Update in order to reflect your vision of the future of the Town of Caroline.

There will be a brief presentation of how the survey was designed, what type of information we were trying to gather and, finally, to get direct comments of residents in their own words of what they find to be of greatest importance to them.  A short slide presentation of the analyzed results will follow.  Finally, you will get to see the comments we received on each of the 11 areas of the survey, how we compiled them and what the results mean.  Planning Board members will be available to answer your questions.  We invite your comments and your help drafting the new plan in the coming months.  Light refreshments will be served.

Thank you,
The Town of Caroline Planning Board
