The Caroline Planning Board is currently focusing on updating and improving strategies for implementing Caroline's comprehensive plan. This fall, the Caroline Planning Board will hold three community workshops to generate and develop strategies for implementing specific areas of the Comprehensive Plan (see information at right). Comprehensive plans are developed through community effort so please come to any or all of the workshops! In addition to contributing at the workshops, ideas can be emailed at any time to Planning_Board@townofcaroline.org.
In whichever way you contribute, please include thoughts on how to make what you want happen, happen. Example: "The Town Board should give out a certificate and hold an awards ceremony honoring the individual or group that picks up the most roadside trash." is preferable to "Get rid of roadside trash." In addition to actions town government can take, feel free to include ideas for actions local businesses, organizations and individuals could take.
The lists in the following descriptions describe the kinds of issues that will be tackled at each community meeting. You should feel free to address additional issues, as long as they are relevant to the main topic of the meeting.
Workshop #1: Making Caroline a More Livable Community
Tuesday November 13th, 7:00 PM
Brooktondale Community Center
The issue of "livability" has been described in many ways by residents, including fostering a stronger sense of community; increasing the viability of local businesses; having access to adequate infrastructure and communications; increasing youth and adult recreation opportunities; increasing programs for seniors; adults, and youth; hosting more community wide social events, farmers' markets, and festivals; and providing services to those in need. Planning Board members will provide some dessert; anyone else may bring a dessert to share, but that is not required!
Workshop #2: Protecting Caroline's Environment and Natural Resources
Thursday December 13th, 7:00 PM
Brooktondale Fire Hall
Protecting the environment consistently ranks as a top of priority for town residents. Examples of issues relevant to this workshop are protecting green space and open space; sustainability; energy sources and impacts; agricultural runoff; air, water, noise or light pollution; protecting watersheds and viewsheds; water consumption, litter and dumping. Bring holiday cookies to share, if you are able.
Workshop #3: Preserving Caroline's Rural Character
Saturday January 12th, 5:00 PM
Speedsville Community Center
Maintaining Caroline's rural character is a high priority for many Caroline residents. Protecting farmland; maintaining farm viability; protecting open space and green space; and issues of land use, infrastructure development, industrial development and housing development are some of the relevant topics. This community meeting will start with a dish-to-pass supper from 5 to 6 pm.
Meetings: 2nd Thursday of the month, 6:30 pm at the Town Hall
Planning Board Members are appointed by Town Board to staggered five year terms. Planning Board members may be reappointed.
