Can I take wood chips and/or ditching dirt from the highway department?
Yes. The Town of Caroline Highway Department does have wood chips available to Caroline residents. The wood chips are for personal use only, and must be picked up at the highway department. You can load your own wood chips and at any time. The supply is limited at times. This will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis and is made available for Caroline residents only.
You can be placed on a list for ditching dirt. We are always looking for dump sites that we can easily access from the road. We try to deliver to the closest dump site in our work area.
There is a dead deer in front of my home. Who do I notify?
To report a dead deer on a road in the Town of Caroline, please call the Highway Department. It is important to notify the Department as soon as possible, so that the deer may be picked up promptly before further problems, such as decay or destruction by dogs, sets in. When you contact us, please be sure to leave the following information: your name, the road name and nearest house number, the location of the deer (ditch, driveway, near mailbox, etc.), and a call-back telephone number. The Department may need to reach you for further information. The Department will call in the report to the proper highway department (county or state). The Town and County departments usually take care of deer on their roads the same work day, but State contracts out this service and may take 24-48 hours for pickup, depending on when they are notified. Deer are not picked up on weekends, although you may leave a message requesting a pickup at any time on our answering machine.
